Hello, my name is Steven Potje and I am a Pet Loss Counsellor providing individual, family and group counselling. Additionally, I can provide memorial and tribute planning assistance.
I currrently have two cats in my household, and have had several other cats and dogs in the past.
My education includes an Honours Bachelor of Social Work from Lakehead University in 1992. I have been working in the field of Adult and Children's Mental Health for the past 24 years, with a focus on mental health recovery and life balance.
In 2010, I have noticed that the greater Waterloo Region area of Southern Ontario had a lack of counselling professionals with specific training and expertise related to pet loss. As a pet owner and pet lover I have personally experienced many pet losses and developed a strong interest in the field of pet bereavement.
Consequently, I completed additional training and education to develop the skills required to assist people experiencing the loss of a pet. This included pet loss counsellor education and training under Dr. Wallace Sife PH.D., the founder of The Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement. I am also an active member of The Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement.
I would be happy to speak with you about your counselling needs related to the loss of your beloved pet.
